When Jesus Garcia, Director at BKA Architecture, moved into a stunning new apartment in St Leonards (NSW), designed by PTW, one essential item was his non-negotiable: a Billi system. Having experienced the convenience of boiling, chilled and sparkling water on demand with a B-5000 in his previous home, he knew it was a luxury he couldn’t live without.
“It became one of those conveniences one cannot live without anymore,” Garcia explains. “So we had to have one installed in the new place.”
The initial challenge wasn’t functionality, but aesthetics. Garcia aimed for perfect harmony with the apartment’s existing fixtures, which featured Parisi’s Fucile finish. Thankfully, Billi’s Gun Metal Grey finish proved to be a seamless match.
“The Billi Gun Metal Greymatches perfectly, offering a unique and elegant look,” Garcia notes. “The brushed finish is easy to clean and, most importantly, it hides fingerprints – a major concern for architects everywhere.”
Beyond looks, the Billi tap’s design impressed Garcia with its functional efficiency.
“The Billi tap lever design is timeless and convenient,” he said. “Like Sullivan’s maxim, ‘form follows function’, the lever operation is intuitive and can be easily operated with busy, wet, or messy hands, typical of a kitchen environment.”
Garcia’s familiarity with Billi extends beyond residential use. BKA Architecture frequently specifies Billi systems for commercial projects, including schools and universities, where durability is paramount.
“We usually specify Billi for our commercial projects, including schools and universities, where the units are exposed to heavy-duty environments,” Garcia states. “So, it was a no-brainer to select this product for our home. The customer service is efficient, and all consumables can be purchased online and easily installed by oneself.”
While Garcia was keen on the latest Billi technology, space constraints dictated otherwise.
“Unfortunately, the newer, more compact, and silent under-bench unit did not fit within the sink cupboard,” he explains. “Therefore, we opted for the previous generation unit which had already serviced us for years in our previous home with no issues. The split design fits within the existing plumbing work, with no need for modifications that would void our building warranty. Nevertheless, if we had the chance, we would have chosen the newer technology. It is truly ground-breaking in terms of silent operation, heat reduction, and energy efficiency.”
For Jesus Garcia, Billi represents more than just a water system. It’s an embodiment of his architectural philosophy for aesthetic harmony, functional excellence, and reliable performance – a testament to the brand’s commitment to both legacy and ongoing innovation.
