Why now’s the time to filter your facility’s water

If you ask people in your facility whether they’re happy drinking water directly from the tap, the majority will say yes. They might not know what chemicals and contaminants are present in the water or how local factors such as infrastructure or pollutant runoff can affect the overall quality, but they feel confident that whatever ends up in their glass is safe to drink.

That’s a problem. While the quality of drinking water in Australia is high by world standards, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be more vigilant when it comes to staying hydrated in the workplace. While the World Health Organisation states that no level of lead exposure is safe, Australian guidelines allow brass fittings to contain lead content up to 4.5 percent. That’s 18 times the level allowed in developed countries such as Canada and the US.

There’s also the issue of smell and odour caused by additives such as chlorine. While these elements might not change the quality of water by themselves, they still pose a problem if they are keeping people from staying hydrated. Research has shown that fluid loss levels as low as 1.36 percent can impair mood, concentration and memory while increasing chances of headaches and fatigue.

Facility managers play a crucial role in ensuring the users of their buildings have access to the purest, highest quality drinking water available. The best way to achieve this is through the use of filtration systems.
